It is often said that woks are deeper versions of the frypan, usually round in shape with flared sides and occasionally complemented with glass or stainless lids. This makes them highly versatile in cooking, where a number of dishes such as rice, vegetables, meat and sauces can be made, via numerous cooking methods including stirfry, boiling, simmering braising. Famously known for their skills with the wok, it is often rumoured that a wok is all that is needed around the Asian domestic kitchen!

Woks come in various sizes and construction to suit different needs - some people prefer the stainless woks for their searing ability, while others adopt nonstick pans for ease of use and cleaning.
